Theresa Thibodeau, who is running for Nebraska Governor in 2022, is an experienced entrepreneur who knows what it is like to work hard, build a business from the ground up, and navigate the complexities of government bureaucracies.
Theresa’s family moved to Nebraska when she was two years old. She grew up in Omaha and met her husband Joe Thibodeau attending St. Robert’s grade school. Theresa graduated from the University of Nebraska Omaha as an academic all-American athlete on the cross-country team. Joe graduated from UNMC and is now a cardiologist with CHI. Theresa and Joe have been married for 20 years and have three children.
Theresa began her career in Human Resources, during those eight years she played integral roles in hiring the “right” people for the job, and later advanced into a consulting role managing multi-million-dollar accounts. In 2014, Theresa fulfilled her dream of being a small business owner and opened the Primrose School of La Vista that focused on the early childhood development. When COVID hit in 2020 Theresa had 185 students and 48 teachers and staff. She was mandated to reduce the occupancy of children and yet made sure she stayed open to keep her staff employed and provide the much-needed service to the community.
Mayor Stothert appointed Theresa to two terms on the Omaha Personnel Board. Governor Pete Ricketts appointed her to the Nebraska Legislature to serve District 6 in 2017 and to the Juvenile Court Nominating Committee in 2019 where she has served in the appointment of three Judges. Theresa was also elected chair of the Douglas County Republican Party in 2019, where she led a rebuilding of the party with reinvigorated volunteers, and a fresh new vision of county party organization focusing on down-ballot and local elections.
Theresa is a pro-life conservative republican that believes in serving others and protecting every innocent life from the time of conception. Other issues Theresa plans to address are tax reform, education issues and public safety.
